Synopsis
As Quality Assessment Reviews (QARs) become increasingly important in demonstrating conformance with the Global Internal Audit Standards (GIAS), internal audit functions are under growing pressure to not only comply with requirements, but also demonstrate quality, consistency, and value to stakeholders. Yet many functions remain uncertain about what external reviewers assess, where common gaps arise, and how best to prepare for an External Quality Assessment (EQA).
This webinar will provide practical insights into the QAR process, including the key requirements under the GIAS, what reviewers typically look out for, and the common areas where internal audit functions may fall short. Participants will also gain guidance on how to assess readiness, strengthen documentation and practices, and avoid pitfalls that could impact the outcome of an EQA.
Drawing from hands-on experience conducting EQAs and supporting organisations in preparing for reviews, the speaker will share practical observations, recurring themes across internal audit functions, and actionable steps to help teams strengthen quality and conformance in an evolving internal audit landscape.

Nicodemus Tan is a Governance and Risk Partner with Baker Tilly with over 20 years of experience in internal audit, risk management, corporate governance and special reviews. Nicodemus was previously the head of internal audit for the APAC region for a Fortune 50 MNC.
He is a Chartered Accountant of Singapore and holds the designations of Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), Certification in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA) and Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) from The Institute of Internal Auditors.
