INTRODUCTION Designing and implementing an effective system of internal control can be challenging, and adapting to rapidly changing business models, new technologies, or globalisation requires that system to be agile. An internal control system requires the use of judgment to monitor and assess its effectiveness, and it must provide insight on the application of controls.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND The programme is geared to internal auditors, accountants, and other financial professionals with two to six years of experience, allowing candidates to demonstrate expertise in designing, implementing, and monitoring a system of internal control using COSO’s updated 2013 Internal Control — Integrated Framework.
COURSE OUTLINE
Note: Two pre-work self-study courses are required to be completed prior to the start of the in-person training. Access to the pre-work is provided 7–10 business days before the start of the in-person training. Overview of the Frameworks
- Identify key terms, definitions, and concepts of COSO’s Internal Control—Integrated Framework (Framework).
- Recall the relationship among objectives, components, and the entity’s structure in achieving an effective system of internal control.
- Recognise roles and responsibilities within an organization related to internal control.
- Recall the limitations of internal control.
Control Environment
- Recall key concepts included in the Framework related to the control environment component of internal control (including principles and points of focus).
- Apply the concepts of the Framework with regard to control environment to a variety of organisational examples in achieving operations, reporting, and compliance objectives.
Risk Assessment
- Recall key concepts included in the Framework related to the risk assessment component of internal control (including principles and points of focus).
Apply the concepts of the Framework with regard to risk assessment to a variety of organisational examples in achieving operations, reporting, and compliance objectives.
- Control Activities
- Recall key concepts included in the Framework related to the control activities component of internal control (including principles and points of focus).
- Apply the concepts of the Framework with regard to control activities to a variety of organisational examples in achieving operations, reporting, and compliance objectives.
Information and Communication
- Recall key concepts included in the Framework related to the information and communication component of internal control (including principles and points of focus).
- Apply the concepts of the Framework with regard to information and communication to a variety of organisational examples in achieving operations, reporting, and compliance objectives.
Monitoring Activities
- Recall key concepts included in the Framework related to the monitoring activities component of internal control (including principles and points of focus).
- Apply the concepts of the Framework with regard to monitoring activities to a variety of organisational examples in achieving operations, reporting, and compliance objectives.
Assessment/ Examination
Please note that only participants who completed the online self-study and instructor-led training will be eligible to sit for the exam. After the conclusion of the instructor-led training session, an email with a link to the online exam will be sent to the individual participant within 1 week. Participants have up to 90 days from the date they receive the exam to complete it. The exam is timed to be completed within 1.5 hours (i.e. window will close automatically). If participants do not achieve a passing score, they will receive a link to retake the exam. Retake must be completed within a month from receipt.
ABOUT THE TRAINER
Ms Angelina Foo has over 20 years of experience in corporate governance, financial crime, regulatory compliance and internal audit. She has held senior positions in compliance and internal audit in multinational and regional financial institutions. She has been involved in various areas of regulatory compliance work including AML/CFT, regulatory advisory, training, monitoring and testing and regulatory liaison. She has managed regional and group regulatory examinations in and out of Singapore by various regulators, including the HKMA, Japan FSA, Federal Reserve Bank, MAS, Office of the Comptroller of the Currency – U.S. Department of Treasury, among others.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Contact person will be notified via email upon successful registration of the participants. The seminar details would be sent to the registered participants one week prior to the seminar.
- Registration fee must be received prior to the date of the seminar.
- Registered participants will be liable for the full registration fee in the event of non-attendance on the date of the seminar.
- Cancellation must be submitted in writing to the Academy team at iia-academy@iia.org.sg at least 7 working days prior to the seminar and subject to IIA Singapore's approval. A processing fee of $100 per participant will be imposed for any cancellation. Substitutions will be permitted and conditions will apply. You may substitute a “like” person to attend the seminar in your place – for example, if you are an IIA Singapore member, you may substitute with another IIA Singapore member.
- IIA Singapore reserves the right to revise the seminar programme as necessary.
- IIA Singapore reserves the right to cancel or postpone the seminar should the minimum class size is not fulfilled. IIA Singapore will refund the full registration fee which has been paid.
