Synopsis

The advancements in technology over the years have fuelled the evolution of fraud today. Unlike in the past, fraudsters now make use of technology to hide their wrongdoings, and in more extreme cases, attempt to physically destroy evidence from their storage media. This changes the methodology of investigative work being performed on fraud cases.

The evolution of fraud introduces the need for trained Digital Forensics Investigators who possess the necessary skills, such as data mining techniques and interviewing skills, to secure, preserve, analyse and build timelines of a subject’s wrong doing. This entire process must be forensically sound in the event that litigation is involved. Once electronic evidence is extracted, it will be handed over to a Fraud Investigator to perform investigative work. Similarly, Fraud Investigators are trained to analyse and build the case using data mining techniques, interviewing skills, and more.

Participants will gain insights on what to do in an event that they notice a red flag or a suspicious fraudulent activity, in order not to further contaminate evidence in the media. These may include data theft, misuse of company assets, financial statement frauds and asset misappropriation.
