INTRODUCTION
As a member of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) and the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APF), Singapore has established a strict legal and regulatory framework against money laundering. Money laundering is the processing of criminal proceeds to disguise their illegal origin, so as to enable criminals to enjoy these profits without the risk of being caught. Money can be laundered through the financial system, as well as non-financial sectors such as casinos, moneylenders, non-profit organisations and corporate service providers.

This 2-day course aims to provide participants with answers to the following questions.
• Do you know what AML is and what are the AML regulatory requirements?
• Is your firm required to comply with these AML regulatory requirements?
• What is the role of internal audit, compliance and business in AML?
• Do you wonder why there are severe enforcement actions and penalties against firms and/or individuals which have been found to have facilitated money laundering activities?
• Do you know if there are effective controls in place to identify, assess, monitor and report on money laundering risks?
• What is customer or client due diligence procedure and why and when do these procedures need to be in place?
• Is there an effective internal audit program in place to assure Board and Senior Management on the state of compliance of the firm?

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Internal auditors as well as personnel, who are directly or indirectly responsible for identifying, preventing and/or mitigating money laundering risks. These include those working in front office, customer service, middle office, operations, risk and compliance officers. This is a basic to intermediate course recommended for individuals/professionals who wish to appreciate the requirements of AML regulations, beyond that of a “box-ticking exercise”.
