SUSS Students Explore the Role of Internal Audit
Curiosity about how businesses work often leads students to ask bigger questions: How are decisions made? How are risks managed? And what roles do professionals play behind the scenes to keep organisations running smoothly? In February 2026, students from the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) got a firsthand look at these questions in action through two interactive sessions on internal audit.
On 11 February 2026, Richard Dyason, Executive Director at IIA Singapore, spoke about the strategic role of internal audit in organisations. He described how the function helps support decision-making, identify risks early, and add value across different areas of business. Students also learned about the IIA Singapore Inter-University Internal Audit Case Study Competition, which provides an opportunity to apply their knowledge in practical scenarios and develop analytical and problem-solving skills.
On 20 February 2026, students met leaders from DBS, including Priscilla Goh, Group Audit Chief Operating Officer, and Wu Huayu, Group Audit Data Chapter Lead. They shared how the bank’s internal audit function has evolved through the use of data, technology, and new ways of working, and highlighted the importance of moving beyond reviewing processes to contributing meaningful business insights. Sunita Kaur, Technical Director at IIA Singapore, also highlighted how the Institute supports the development of future-ready talent and encouraged students to participate in the case study competition.
The sessions provided students with a better understanding of how the internal audit function operates, showing that the work is analytical, collaborative, and closely linked to organisational strategy.
