MAY your Networks Bind. Always.
About 30 members of The Institute of Internal Auditors Singapore (IIAS) – both old and new, came together at Folks Collective (Asia Square) on 16 May 2018 not just for dinner and networking, but to celebrate the International Internal Audit Awareness Month.
“A fundamental shift has occurred in the profession that positions internal audit to play a more strategic role — a shift away from mere assurance over controls to the more vital assurance over governance, risk, and compliance. With technology advancements and big data, internal auditors need to embrace technology and leverage its potential multiplying effect, acting without fear to understand the possibilities, keep an open mind, and continually evolve. But at the same time, technological advances should never replace our skills — it can only augment them. When it comes to deploying AI, it is IA –intelligence augmentation,” said Ms Tan Boon Yen, President of IIAS in her opening remarks.
Throughout the evening, catch-up chatter and conversation went extremely well with the food, while discussions over drinks spilled-over (excuse the pun) to the month’s specially planned activities. With a chance to win book prizes, along with application fee waiver for CIA and membership, the month of May is also sweetened by the unique door gift of a Kit Kat! Appropriately so, upon ‘auditing’ the difference between a KIT and a KAT, the only 2 letters that are extracted are IA!
“Expecting a welcome dinner for newbies like me, I was pleasantly surprised by the camaraderie among the members. Networking with the new and existing members from various industries tremendously reinforced my understanding and knowledge of the internal audit profession. The IIAS constantly updates us with the latest trends in the profession and provides us with training and career development programmes, which motivate us to bring our concepts as well as our skill sets to the next level,” said Mr Jiang Wei, Consultant, RSM Risk Advisory and new member of IIAS.
