Learn At Lunch: Blowing a Whistle Rising to a Challenge In a Risky World
Captivating stories, fascinating facts and a lunchtime to remember. Presented by Mr Sarjit Singh, Executive Chairman of Ardent, there was an overwhelming participation of over 60 internal audit professionals at our May’s Learn At Lunch talk on “Blowing A Whistle: Rising to a Challenge in a Risky World” held on 9 May 2019. It was also special as it coincided with the May International Internal Audit Awareness month where IIA Institutes and internal audit functions around the world promote the value of internal auditing to their stakeholders.
In her welcome address, IIA Singapore’s President Ms Tan Boon Yen highlighted that as a trusted advisor who adds value to our stakeholders, it is imperative to keep pace with the speed of change, follow the risks and align with the business strategies. This is where the agility of the internal audit function is important for it remain relevant.
Mr Singh presented short case examples, fun facts, ethical dilemmas faced by employees, and real-life illustrations. The session concluded with a fun quiz “Who Wants to be a Whistleblower”, which saw two lucky participants walked away with prizes provided by the Institute.
“It was a joy to see a full house of fellow practitioners and members of the IIA community attending. Whistleblowers may be the source of smoking gun evidence and indispensable assistance that strengthens corporate governance to protect investors and the capital markets,” said Mr Singh.
Highly rated by all, our attendees had plenty to say about the talk and the speaker:
- “Speaker was very engaging and animated. Content was easy to follow. Speaker used different ways to engage audience, e.g. interviews, videos, quiz.”
- “Very humourous, brings laughter to the crowd. Explains concepts and content in a light-hearted manner.”
- “Informative. Have more talk from him please.”
