Over 300 delegates, including Ms Goh Soon Poh, Auditor-General and Mr Ow Fook Chuen, Accountant-General attended our flagship Public Sector Internal Audit Conference on 25 April 2019. The theme of the conference “Enhancing Public Trust in the Digital Age” focuses on the opportunities presented to internal audit to transform its assurance model to deliver increased value to the agencies and promote trust in a digital environment.
In his speech, Guest-of-Honour Chee Hong Tat, Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Trade and Industry and Ministry of Education focused on three topics that called on internal auditors to explore how their expertise can be applied to reviewing rules and procedures to help the organisation improve and be future-ready. The three topics are:
(a) How to go beyond ensuring that employees follow proper rules and procedures, to designing rules and procedures that can be properly followed?
(b) How do we lower compliance costs by simplifying our rules and procedures, so that our internal and external stakeholders can benefit from cost and time savings?
(c) How to go beyond minimising risks to encouraging calculated risk-taking, experimentation and innovation?
