Outreach to Ngee Ann Polytechnic
On 25 October 2022, the IIA Singapore Young Professionals Working Group (YPWG) held an outreach talk “Building a career in Internal Audit: Advisory, assurance and more” for Ngee Ann Polytechnic students. The session was attended by over 150 participants.
Facilitated by YPWG members, Katherine Ang, Natalie Goh and Victor Wong, they elaborated how internal audit roles have been transformed and the opportunities they provide today. Through the talk, the students gained an understanding and appreciation of an internal auditor’s day-to-day responsibilities, the differences between the routines of an in-house auditor and a big 4 auditor, and the diverse skill sets required. As internal auditors have access to the entire business cycle and decisions important to the business, they stand to gain a much more in-depth perspective of the business. The three YPWG members unanimously, agreed that this aspect has been the fulfilling part of becoming an internal auditor. Stephen Ching, YPWG Advisor (Senior Vice President, Group Head, Internal Audit, Singapore Technologies Engineering) also shared his life experiences and how he ventured into the auditing industry. He advised the students to start thinking about their career options as they will soon enter the workforce.
With this sharing session, we hope it will help to shed light that internal audit offers a promising and rewarding career.
