Annual Conference 2023
IIA Singapore Annual Conference 2023, themed "Driving Excellence: Creating Sustainable Value with Good Governance & Control" was targeted at internal auditors and GRC professionals, aiming to enhance their expertise in governance and control practices. Held on 31 August 2023, at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, it drew over 300 internal audit practitioners and industry leaders from Singapore and the region.
The conference comprised four breakout sessions featuring a diverse group of 34 speakers, including industry experts, thought leaders, and seasoned practitioners. These experts shared their invaluable perspectives on pressing topics, including sustainability, emerging technologies, fraud, and the future of internal audit in the new economy. In her keynote address, Sally-Anne Pitt, IIA Chair of the Global Board, delved into the evolving risk landscape, addressing key topics like cybersecurity, digital disruption, environmental, social, and governance, and fraud. She highlighted how emerging issues, like ChatGPT, are reshaping business and shared what The IIA is doing to keep practitioners abreast of these transformative changes while advancing the profession's interests. During a fireside chat, moderated by David Toh, Governor of IIA Singapore and Conference Chairperson, Sally-Anne focused on thinking differently about the skills and experiences required as internal auditors, the nature of work undertaken by internal auditors, and the tools we use.
The key takeaways from this conference centered on embracing innovation and technology to propel our profession forward, recognising our role as advocates for sustainability, and emphasising the pivotal role of collaboration in our interconnected world. As internal auditors, we stand as champions of innovation, diversity, sustainability, collaboration, effective risk management, and value addition.
