Tertiary Summit 2024
On 13 September 2024, the IIA Singapore Young Professionals Working Group (YPWG) hosted the inaugural Tertiary Summit at e2i West, attracting students from Singapore's leading universities and polytechnics. The Summit provided a platform for young minds to learn, network, and explore the rewarding career path of internal audit.
In his welcome address, Nicodemus Tan, Secretary of the Board of Governors at IIA Singapore, extended his gratitude to the students, speakers, and supporting partners for their involvement in the event. Special appreciation was given to the dedicated YPWG team, led by Olivia Loke, for their hard work in organising the Summit.
The event kicked off with a clear focus on raising awareness about the internal audit profession and showcasing its diverse career opportunities. Natalie Goh, Senior Manager at EY, set the stage with her presentation titled “IA 101: Introduction to Internal Audit”, providing a foundational overview of the field. This was followed by a panel discussion on “The DNA of an Internal Auditor”, featuring industry experts, Howard Dan (Managing Director and Head of Audit Analytics, OCBC), Cheryl Lim, Executive Director, Controls Assurance, Partner, Deloitte & Touche), and Jennifer Ong (Chief Audit Officer, NUS and Governor of IIA Singapore), with Natalie Goh as the moderator. Another highlight was Zen Soh from Kerry Consulting, who shared practical advice in her session, “Kickstart your Career: Expert Tips on Resumes & Interviews”.
Students had the opportunity to network and explore career prospects at corporate booths from 11 organisations, including Baker Tilly, BDO, Deloitte, EY, Foo Kon Tan, Grant Thornton, Handshakes, KPMG, Forvis Mazars, PwC, and RSM Singapore. They also enjoyed free portrait shots and coffee, while IIA Singapore offered free student membership at their booth.
The day wrapped up with a lucky draw, where IIA Singapore Governor Jennifer Ong announced the three winners who walked away with special prizes!
Overall, the Summit offered students meaningful insights and opportunities to engage with the internal audit profession, fostering connections and enhancing their understanding of potential career paths.
