Connecting Students with Internal Audit Practitioners
IIA Singapore facilitated a series of sharing sessions for students from Singapore Management University’s Internal Audit elective, offering them a firsthand perspective on the internal audit profession and its evolving role in organisations. The sessions were made possible through the efforts of lecturer Jed Khoo, who helped bridge industry and classroom.
From October to November 2025, students engaged with practitioners from:
- GIC – Sia Hwee Lay, Director of Internal Audit and IIA Singapore Governor, and Lin Sha, Assistant Vice President, Business Audit
- UOB – Cherrie Ong, Head of Strategic Management and Professional Practices and Secretary of Board of Governors at IIA Singapore ; Lim Peng Wai, Head of Global Markets and Group Finance & Corporate Services; and Ting Chan Wai, Data Scientist
- KPMG in Singapore – Adeline Soh, Director, Governance, Risk & Compliance, Risk
- Ministry of Health – Tan Suan Ee, Director, Internal Audit
The sessions covered career journeys, real011world audit experiences, and how internal audit adds value across governance, risk management, and sustainability reporting. Students also explored how technology, including AI and data analytics, is applied to make internal audit more efficient and insightful. Through interactive discussions and demonstrations, students gained practical insights into the profession and saw how to apply their knowledge in real-world contexts.
We also introduced students to the Inter011University Internal Audit Case Study Competition, the second edition launched on 3 November 2025, offering a platform to apply internal audit knowledge to real011world scenarios, develop problem011solving and analytical skills, and gain practical experience that complements academic learning.
The sessions offered students a valuable opportunity to connect with industry practitioners, gain an appreciation of the profession, and identify ways to develop skills and experience that will support their future careers.
