Engaging Future Leaders
The start of a brand-new year marked an exciting chapter for IIA Singapore’s efforts to connect with the next generation of internal audit professionals. In January 2025, the Institute reached out to over 100 students from Singapore Management University and Singapore University of Social Sciences, inspiring them to explore rewarding career opportunities in internal auditing.
At these engagements, Executive Director Richard Dyason delivered a presentation highlighting the vital role of internal audit in organisations and the valuable career prospects it offers. He emphasised how internal auditors contribute to governance, risk management, and organisational success. Sunita Kaur, Technical Director at IIA Singapore, also shared her journey as an internal auditor. She explained the differences between internal and external auditing, highlighting that while external auditors focus on financial statements and regulatory compliance, internal auditors take a broader view by evaluating an organisation’s risk management, control processes, and operational efficiency. Sunita elaborated on how her role allowed her to engage with various departments across organisations, pointing out the value-adding nature of internal audit in driving improvement and strategic decision-making.
The highlight of the month was the launch of the Inter-University Internal Audit Case Study Competition on 13 January 2025. This competition provides students with a unique opportunity to apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios, propose innovative solutions, and demonstrate their understanding of internal auditing practices. At these sharing sessions, details of the competition were also shared. With a total cash prize of $6,000 to be won, the competition also includes complimentary student membership for participants, granting them access to IIA’s global resources, such as webinars, research, and career development tools. To further engage students and spark their interest, IIA Singapore distributed exclusive cup sleeve carriers as tokens of appreciation during the events.
By connecting with students and offering them opportunities to learn, compete, and grow, the Institute continues to elevate the profession.
