Panel Discussion: Unlock Your Curiosity – Discover the World of an Internal Auditor

Internal audit is transforming into a rewarding career that goes far beyond checking compliance and controls. Today’s internal auditors are problem solvers and trusted partners who help organisations navigate risks, embrace new technologies and build stronger governance. This was the focus of the IIA Singapore Young Professionals Working Group (YPWG) webinar, “Panel Discussion: Unlock Your Curiosity – Discover the World of an Internal Auditor”, which took place on 28 August 2025 and drew more than 140 participants, including students and young professionals.

The panel featured a mix of voices at different career stages. Quek Ying Fang, Internal Auditor at Portcullis Group, and Sia Hui Ling, Internal Auditor (Financial and Systems Department) at HDB, shared what led them to choose internal audit as a career and the emerging skills they see as critical. Both emphasised the importance of a learning mindset – being open to new challenges, building adaptability and growing professionally in a fast-changing environment. From a more seasoned perspective, Alvin Tee, Head of Risk Consulting and Chief Sustainability Officer at PKF, spoke about how internal audit is expanding its impact. He highlighted the profession’s role in anticipating risks, contributing to sustainability efforts and applying tools such as data analytics to deliver deeper insights for decision-making.

The discussion, moderated by Chaitanya Muthaiyan from Group Audit, UOB, provided a practical and engaging look into the profession. Participants took part in Q&A, polls and quizzes, which kept the session lively and engaging.

The event demonstrated how internal audit continues to evolve and how curiosity, adaptability and communication skills remain central to success in the profession.
