Inter-University Internal Audit Case Study Competition 2026 Finals

The IIA Singapore Inter-University Internal Audit Case Study Competition 2026 concluded with its final round on 22 May 2026 at the IIA Singapore office, held in conjunction with Internal Audit Month. Sponsored by KPMG and UOB, the competition introduces undergraduates to internal audit through a practical case study format that requires teams to evaluate real organisations and propose risk and control focused recommendations.

The 2026 edition drew participation from students across all five local universities, namely the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT), Singapore Management University (SMU), and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). A total of 16 team submissions were received by the closing date of 1 April 2026.

From these submissions, six teams were shortlisted for the final presentations. The finalists represented NTU, SIT, SMU, and SUSS. Across the presentations, teams demonstrated strong analytical thinking, structured approach, and clarity in communicating their findings. The overall quality of work led the judging panel to award three merit prizes in addition to the top three placements.

Finalists were tasked to conduct a risk-based review of a selected organisation and present their findings within 20 minutes, followed by a 10 minute question and answer session with the judging panel. Assessments were based on the teams’ understanding of the business context, identification of key risks and issues, strength of recommendations, and overall communication effectiveness.

The judging panel comprised Sarah Chin (Principal Advisor, Governance, Risk and Compliance, KPMG Singapore); Lim Peng Wai (Executive Director, Head of Strategic Management and Professional Practices, Group Audit, UOB); Gary Teo (Treasurer, Board of Governors, IIA Singapore and Internal Audit Director, Airwallex); and Koh Yong Chuan (IIA Singapore Young Professionals and Students Committee Member). Support in reviewing the competition submissions was also provided by Lee Jeng Wah (IIA Singapore Young Professionals and Students Committee Member and Deputy Director from the Auditor General’s Office); Freddie Chew (Governor of IIA Singapore and Vice President, Internal Audit from CapitaLand Investment); and Soh Woon Gan (IIA Singapore Young Professionals and Students Committee Member).

The competition results were as follows:

  • Champion: Team Blackred Inc, SIT
  • Runner up: Team Foursenic Minds, NTU
  • Third place: Team JZC, SMU
  • Merit Awards: Team Brooklyn Consulting Group, SUSS; Team Ebiko, SIT; and Team I KEA Consultancy, SUSS

The champion team shared that the experience deepened their understanding of internal audit’s role in strengthening governance, controls, and escalation in complex and evolving risk environments. The event also enabled participants to interact with internal audit practitioners, gain practical insights into the profession, and build professional connections.

This year’s competition continues to bridge academic learning with real world application. Preparations are underway for the third edition scheduled for the second half of 2026.
