SIM Students Gain Insights into the Internal Audit Profession

On 13 July 2026, IIA Singapore partnered with the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) to host a career sharing session for students. The session featured Emily Lai, Partner and Head of Business Risk Services at Grant Thornton and Governor of IIA Singapore, who drew on her career journey and professional experience to share insights into the evolving role of internal audit.

Emily highlighted how internal audit has evolved to meet the changing needs of organisations, creating value through objective assurance, advice and insight. She shared how internal auditors contribute to stronger governance, effective risk management and improved organisational performance, while emphasising the importance of continuous learning, professional curiosity and adaptability in an increasingly dynamic business environment. The session also provided students with a better understanding of the diverse career opportunities available within internal audit and the knowledge, skills and competencies required to succeed in the profession. During the interactive question and answer segment, students explored topics including career pathways, the realities of working in internal audit, and the evolving expectations of organisations.

The career sharing session formed part of IIA Singapore's ongoing collaboration with institutes of higher learning to raise awareness of the internal audit profession among students.
