Internal Audit Practitioner

Establish Your Internal Audit Credentials with the Internal Audit Practitioner Designation
The Internal Audit Practitioner (IAP) designation offers a recognised pathway for individuals to demonstrate their internal audit knowledge without the need to meet traditional education or work experience requirements. It also serves as a foundational step toward earning the Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation, the only globally recognised certification for internal auditors.
By earning the IAP, professionals gain formal recognition for their internal audit aptitude through the successful completion of the CIA Part 1 exam, underscoring their commitment to the profession and ongoing professional development.
The IAP Designation Benefits
Alternative Entry Pathway
- Designed for those new to internal audit or transitioning into the profession, the IAP offers a streamlined path to the CIA by waiving the CIA Part 1 exam requirement.
Global Recognition
- Awarded by The IIA, the IAP is internationally recognised and aligned with globally accepted standard and ethics.
Permanent Designation
- The IAP is now a permanent designation with 20 hours of annual CPE required beginning in 2026.
Programme Overview
Candidates accepted into the IAP programme must pass the CIA Part 1 exam within two years and meet all exit requirements. Certification holders awarded the IAP after 27 May 2025 have four years to enrol in the CIA programme while maintaining the waiver of CIA Part 1. Those awarded the IAP on or before 27 May 2025 must enrol by 31 May 2026 to maintain this waiver.
